Fruits and vegetables can boost a child's immune system, providing them with wide variety of vitamins and minerals like vitamin C and folic acid. One of the major issues we face is that the vegetables and fruits we get from the market are not necessarily organic. Bangalore Food Bank, with the support of partners developed a sustainable solution, where children from the school, grow vegetables for their own consumption in their school kitchen garden, they nurture it and harvest them for their use.
Through the School Kitchen Garden Program, plots have been divided and prepped for planting the saplings. The saplings to be planted are decided by the children and is acquired by the school authorities with the support from Bangalore Food Bank. The children plant the saplings, nurture and harvest them. Each part of the plot is taken care by an assigned class of students. After harvest, the cultivated products are used in preparing meals for them.
